The ICY DOCK ExpressCage MB324SP-1B is a 4-bay mobile drive enclosure that converts one standard 5.25-inch optical drive bay into four individually accessible bays for 2.5-inch SATA or single-channel SAS hard drives and solid-state drives. It is well suited for NAS servers, homelab systems, compact workstations, RAID arrays, backup systems, and small business servers that require flexible storage expansion in a space-efficient design. The enclosure supports SATA III data speeds up to 6Gbps and SAS 3.0 speeds up to 12Gbps when connected to a compatible SAS host.

Tool-Less ExpressTray Installation and Hot-Swap Convenience

ICY DOCK's ExpressTray system allows compatible drives to be installed and removed without tools. Align the drive with the built-in tray pins, press it into position, and secure it with the integrated latch. Optional screw holes provide additional retention for systems subject to vibration or frequent movement. Hot-swappable bays simplify drive replacement, upgrades, RAID maintenance, testing, and backup management without requiring the chassis to be opened. The MB324SP-1B accommodates 2.5-inch drives with common 5mm, 7mm, 9.5mm, and 12.5mm heights.

Adjustable Cooling and Reliable Drive Monitoring

A rear-mounted 40mm fan directs airflow across the installed drives, while ventilation openings in the enclosure and trays help support thermal management. A selectable jumper provides high, low, or off fan modes for balancing cooling performance and acoustics. The fan can also be replaced with a standard 2-pin or 3-pin 40mm model. Individual blue activity LEDs provide clear status feedback for each bay, while Active Power Technology helps conserve power by supplying power only to bays containing a drive. The black ABS enclosure includes support for locking-latch SATA connections when used with compatible cables.
