Sikaflex 295 UV - Black - 10oz Tube with Nozzle

Exterior sealant and direct glazing adhesive for organic glass in Marine applications. Sikaflex-295 UV is a 1-component polyurethane adhesive of paste-like consistency that cures on exposure to atmospheric moisture. It is suitable for interior and exterior sealing applications and to bond organic glass in the Marine business. Sikaflex-295 UV meets the requirements set out by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Features:

  • Excellent application properties
  • Resistant to aging and weathering
  • Suitable for organic glasses

Areas of Application

Sikaflex-295 UV has been specially developed for the marine industry, where it is used to bond and seal plastic glazing materials in boats and ships. Because of its excellent weatherability this product can also be used to seal joints in exposed areas. Suitable substrates are aluminum (bright or anodized), GRP (polyester resin), stainless steel, timber, 2-component coatings, and plastic glazing materials (PC, PMMA). Seek manufacturers advice and perform tests on original substrates before using Sikaflex-295 UV on materials prone to stress cracking. This product is suitable for experienced professional users only. Tests with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.

Product Benefits:

  • Excellent application properties
  • Resistant to aging and weathering
  • Suitable for organic glasses
  • Approved for the OEM market
  • Wheelmark approved

Surface Preparation:

Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, and contaminants. Surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is crucial for a long-lasting bond. Suggestions for surface preparation may be found on the current edition of the appropriate Sika Pre-treatment Chart. Consider that these suggestions are based on experience and have in any case to be verified by tests on original substrates.

Application:

Sikaflex-295 UV can be processed between 10 C and 35 C (climate and product) but changes in reactivity and application properties have to be considered. The optimum temperature for substrate and sealant is between 15 C and 25 C.
Consider that the viscosity will increase at low temperatures. For easy application, condition the adhesive at ambient temperature prior to use. To ensure a uniform thickness of the bonding it is recommended to apply the adhesive in form of a triangular bead.

Tooling Finishing

Tooling and finishing must be carried out within the skin time of the product. It is recommended to use Sika Tooling Agent N. Other finishing agents must be tested for suitability and compatibility prior to the use.

Removal

Uncured Sikaflex-295 UV can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin have to be washed immediately using Sika Cleaner-350H cleaning towels or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on the skin.

Overpainting

Sikaflex-295 UV can be painted prior to and after the formation of the skin. If the painting process takes place after the sealant has built a skin, adhesion could be improved by treating the joint surface with Sika Aktivator-100 or Sika Aktivator-205 prior to the painting process. If the paint requires a baking process (> 80 C), the best performance is achieved by allowing the sealant to fully cure first. All paints have to be tested by carrying preliminary trials under manufacturing conditions. The elasticity of paints is usually lower than that of sealants. This could lead to cracking of the paint in the joint area.

The Sika Sikaflex 295 UV is a high-performance, 1-component polyurethane sealant designed for marine and exterior applications. Its paste-like consistency cures upon exposure to atmospheric moisture, providing a durable, flexible bond suitable for organic glass and various substrates. This sealant is ideal for sealing and bonding plastic glazing materials in boats and ships, meeting the stringent requirements set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Its excellent weather resistance and aging properties make it suitable for both interior and exterior marine environments, ensuring long-lasting performance in exposed areas. The product’s versatility extends to bonding aluminum (bright or anodized), GRP, stainless steel, timber, and plastics such as PC and PMMA, making it a comprehensive solution for marine glazing and sealing needs. Its OEM approval and Wheelmark certification underscore its reliability and compliance with industry standards.

Application and surface preparation are critical for optimal results. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, and dust. Proper surface treatment tailored to substrate specifics is essential for achieving a strong, lasting bond. Sikaflex-295 UV can be processed at temperatures between 10°C and 35°C, with best application conditions between 15°C and 25°C. For ease of application, condition the sealant at ambient temperature and apply in a triangular bead to ensure uniform thickness. Tooling should be completed within the skin time, with Sika Tooling Agent N recommended for finishing. Uncured material can be removed with Sika Remover-208 or similar solvents, while cured sealant requires mechanical removal.

Post-application, Sikaflex-295 UV can be painted before or after skin formation. For improved adhesion, surface treatment with Sika Aktivator-100 or 205 is advised prior to painting, especially when using coatings that require baking at temperatures above 80°C. Conduct preliminary tests to confirm compatibility with specific paints and substrates, as elasticity differences can cause cracking. The sealant’s flexibility and weather resistance ensure it withstands harsh marine conditions, making it an excellent choice for sealing joints exposed to weathering and UV radiation. Designed for professional use, Sikaflex-295 UV provides a reliable, durable bond in demanding marine environments, with proven performance and industry approvals ensuring confidence in its application.

Features:

  • Excellent application properties for precise sealing and bonding
  • Resistant to aging, weathering, and UV exposure for durability
  • Suitable for bonding organic glasses and various substrates
  • OEM approved and Wheelmark certified for marine applications
  • Compatible with a range of materials including aluminum, GRP, stainless steel, timber, and plastics
