Restore the classic appearance of your early Harley-Davidson Panhead engine with the V-Twin 10-1631 8-Finned Panhead Cam Cover in chrome. This replacement cam cover is designed for 1948 through 1953 Harley-Davidson EL and FL models and features the traditional eight-fin styling associated with Panhead engines. It is the Alcoa version and does not include the OHO oil feed hole, making it important to verify compatibility with your engine configuration before installation.
Cam cover bushings must be inspected and properly fitted for final assembly. Reaming should be completed with the cover installed on the right-side crankcase, working from the left side. Check camshaft end play and confirm that all oil passages and oil feed holes in the bushings are clear. Existing bushings should also be checked for proper oil passage alignment, especially when replacing or servicing bushings. Tapered screw holes may require additional countersinking; compare the screw head to the cover before installation.
Some modification may be necessary to achieve proper fitment. For 32E six-volt, two-brush generators, verify the generator mounting hole size before installation: early models use 1/4-inch holes, while later applications use 5/16-inch holes. Careful preparation, fitting, and oil passage inspection are essential for reliable assembly and proper engine operation. This chrome cam cover is supplied as a replacement component for restoration, repair, or custom Panhead engine projects.
