Argodiode Battery Isolator 180-3AC - 3 Batteries - 180A
Argodiode Battery Isolators allow simultaneous charging of two or more batteries from one alternator, without connecting the batteries. Discharging the accessory battery for example will not result in also discharging the starter battery. Low voltage drop due to the use of high-efficiency Schottky diodes.
The Argo Battery Isolators feature a low voltage drop thanks to the use of Schottky diodes: at low current, the voltage drop is approximately 0,3 V, and at the rated output of approximately 0,45 V. All models are fitted with a compensation diode that can be used to slightly increase the output voltage of the alternator. This compensates for the voltage drop over the diodes in the isolator.
Simply inserting the isolator in the cabling between the alternator and the batteries will slightly reduce charge voltage. The result can be that batteries are not charged to the full 100% and age prematurely.
Alternator energize input
Some alternators need DC voltage on the B+ output to start charging. Obviously, DC will be present when the alternator is directly connected to a battery. Inserting a Diode or FET splitter will however prevent any return voltage/current from the batteries to the B+, and the alternator will not start. The new AC diode isolators feature a special current limited energize input that will power the B+ when the engine run/stop switch is closed.
Please contact your dealer for any returns, repairs or support issues related to this product. The Victron Energy Argodiode Battery Isolator 180-3AC is designed to enable the simultaneous charging of up to three batteries from a single alternator without direct electrical connection between them. This feature ensures that discharging an accessory battery will not affect the starter battery, maintaining reliable vehicle operation. The isolator is rated for 180 amps, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications where efficient power management is critical.
Constructed with high-efficiency Schottky diodes, the Argodiode isolator offers a low voltage drop—approximately 0.3 volts at low current and around 0.45 volts at rated output—minimizing power loss during operation. All models include a compensation diode that slightly increases the alternator's output voltage to offset the voltage drop caused by the diodes, ensuring batteries are charged as fully as possible. Installing this isolator between the alternator and your batteries will help optimize charging efficiency and prolong battery life.
Some alternators require a DC voltage signal on the B+ output to initiate charging. The Victron Argodiode isolator features a specialized current-limited energize input, which allows the alternator to be powered when the engine run/stop switch is engaged, preventing issues related to return voltage or current from the batteries. This functionality ensures reliable alternator operation even in complex electrical setups, making it suitable for vehicles and marine applications where consistent battery management is essential.
Designed for durability and ease of installation, the Victron Argodiode Battery Isolator is an essential component for advanced battery management systems. Proper installation and maintenance will ensure optimal performance, helping extend battery lifespan and improve overall electrical system efficiency.
