Argodiode Battery Isolator 80-2AC - 2 Batteries - 80A
Argodiode Battery Isolators allow simultaneous charging of two or more batteries from one alternator, without connecting the batteries. Discharging the accessory battery for example will not result in also discharging the starter battery. Low voltage drop due to the use of high-efficiency Schottky diodes.
The Argo Battery Isolators feature a low voltage drop thanks to the use of Schottky diodes: at low current, the voltage drop is approximately 0,3 V, and at the rated output of approximately 0,45 V. All models are fitted with a compensation diode that can be used to slightly increase the output voltage of the alternator. This compensates for the voltage drop over the diodes in the isolator.
Simply inserting the isolator in the cabling between the alternator and the batteries will slightly reduce charge voltage. The result can be that batteries are not charged to the full 100% and age prematurely.
Alternator energize input
Some alternators need DC voltage on the B+ output to start charging. Obviously, DC will be present when the alternator is directly connected to a battery. Inserting a Diode or FET splitter will however prevent any return voltage/current from the batteries to the B+, and the alternator will not start. The new AC diode isolators feature a special current limited energize input that will power the B+ when the engine run/stop switch is closed.

Designed to allow simultaneous charging of two batteries from a single alternator, it prevents the discharge of the accessory battery from affecting the starter battery, ensuring reliable power availability. Featuring high-efficiency Schottky diodes, this isolator exhibits a low voltage drop—approximately 0.3 volts at low current and around 0.45 volts at rated output—minimizing power loss during operation. All models include a compensation diode that slightly increases the alternator's output voltage to counteract diode voltage drops, optimizing charging efficiency. Installing this isolator between the alternator and batteries is straightforward and provides a robust solution for many power management scenarios. It ensures that each battery is charged effectively without complex wiring or risk of battery depletion. A unique feature of the Argodiode isolator is its current-limited energize input, which allows some alternators requiring DC voltage on the B+ terminal to start charging properly. This prevents issues with battery return voltage that could inhibit alternator activation, ensuring consistent operation. Built with durability and reliability in mind, the Victron Argodiode Battery Isolator 80-2AC is suitable for demanding environments where dependable power distribution is critical. Proper installation and understanding of its features will help maximize your battery system's lifespan and performance, making it an essential component for dual battery configurations in vehicles and marine vessels.
